Is Edge really performing good. Do you like EDGE?


With windows 10 operating system, Microsoft has introduced a new browser for the modern web called as Microsoft Edge. Since Internet Explorer was badly pronounced across web, Microsoft finally ditched the old browser and built an all new browser from the ground. The browser is constantly improved to compete with the other browser in the market.

With the creator’s update, the potential of the browser is improved and Microsoft has declared that the edge is performing well with the benchmark tests. Even Microsoft has made edge as the default PDF reader and an e-book reader. Microsoft has also introduced E-book section in Microsoft edge where the download E books from store will be available for reading. With Edge Microsoft is trying to provide a rich reading experience.

Among all the features introduced by Microsoft, the inking which allows us to write on any web page is most welcomed. This being the only browser powered with Cortana, helps us to find synonyms of the words while reading books, and even finds related content across the web. Cortana can even suggest best offers while you are shopping online. As a part of tab management, a new feature “set the tab’s aside” was introduced, this providing a more cleaner browsing experience.

Till creators update Microsoft edge is focused to provide,

  1. Better fundamentals – Performance, efficiency and security
  2. New API’s for Web and Web app developers
  3. Class leading accessibility – Web should work for everyone
  4. New features to make us productive

So, What’s next?

User experience – most responsive and clean UI in connection with fluent design system.

  1. Tabs - Tabs will now open and close without any flickering.
  2. Browser Frame – with acrylic material and transparency, Microsoft is bringing color to the UI, without being over whelming.
  3. Favorites animation – in the recent build release on 8th June, Microsoft has introduced an animation to favorites icon. When you mark a webpage as favorite, a little star animation will appear. This helps to clearly indicate where the favorites are stored in browser.
  4. Button clicks – Acknowledging the users about the received input, makes the browser more responsive.

Next generation web application (Progressive Web apps) -  EDGE will provide a native web app support. What is progressive Web apps? All we have used applications in our mobile or tablets. This requires a download from an authorized store. But progressive web apps can provide a native app-like experience in your device without installation, everything is handled by the web browser. Microsoft is turning EDGE browser to natively run all the applications and games. Progressive web app has the following ten characteristics, they are progressive, responsive, Network independent, App-like, Fresh, Safe, discoverable, Re-engageable, Installable and Linkable.

Advancing Web platform – through modern web apps and tools. They are working on several API’s such as unprefixed web authentication API, Push API, cache API to facilitate the developers. We can expect a drastic improvement on developer tools. Developer tools in EDGE can be invoked by F12 key.

Double down on fundamentals – Performance, reliability and security.

Also, edge allows you to pin Websites to your task bar. Cool, right? Just a click will get you to the site you mostly use. Did you like this new browser.
